Description[]

Winnie-the-Pooh is a children's book, written by A. A. Milne, and published in 1926. The book is a Great British classic featuring Christopher Robin Milne (the author's son) and his stuffed toys: Pooh Bear, Eeyore the donkey, Rabbit (and his "friends and relations"), Piglet, Kanga and Roo, Tigger and others. Each animal has a well-developed character, and each story is just the right length for a bedtime story for a 4-6 year old. Parents will appreciate the humour, and the stories are greatly enhanced by the illustrations by E.H. Shepard. A sequel, The House at Pooh Corner, was published in 1928. The books have also famously been adapted by Disney.

Reader's Reviews[]

My father read these stories to me when I was four. I thoroughly enjoyed them then, and I thoroughly enjoyed reading them again to my own son when he was four. This is one of my all-time favourite books. Three cheers for Pooh!

I read this book when I was in my 30s in its English original. It's a superb book that touched me, kept me captivated and has a poetical and lyrical quality to it. Funny, fun, lovely and lovable. The following book (The House at Pooh's Corner) is also good. User:Shlomif

Parental Guidance[]

  • Reading Aloud Age: 4+

The stories are much better as read-alouds than for personal reading - in fact some of the English is probably too advanced to be read by the age group that will appreciate them the most. The audiobook recording by Alan Bennett is also a good option.
