- Reading Age: 14+
- Reading Aloud Age: 12 upwards if listener fairly mature and if parent is willing to discuss the issues raised as they go through the book together.
A sensitive child could be upset by the start of the book, as the heroine has to go to the police station to identify her mother's body. (The mother was shot by the authorities as she tried to escape to the West).
