This is an account of what it was like to live in East Berlin before the Wall was taken down, seen through the eyes of a teenage girl. Much factual information is woven in with a human interest story. The book explains the real-life outworkings of different political systems very well.
An informative book, well written. Keeps your interest because of the good characterisation.

A sensitive child could be upset by the start of the book, as the heroine has to go to the police station to identify her mother's body. (The mother was shot by the authorities as she tried to escape to the West).
