The Rhyming Rabbit is a book written by Julia Donaldson, who is also the author of the well-known children’s book The Gruffalo.
As you can imagine from the title of the book it is full of simple yet witty rhymes. However some of the descriptive words are more complex and would easily grab a child’s attention. This mixture fits with the simple idea behind the book and allows the child to use their imagination.
Throughout the book children are also provided with clear facts about animals. This makes the book educational, as it provides information as well as the literacy aspect provided by the rhyming. In regards to who I believe the book is aimed at I would suggest key stage one. They would appreciate the cleaver illustration and bold layout of the book as it is a suitable size for whole class reading.
Overall I really enjoyed the book and feel a large number of children would also like both the story and the illustrations. I would defiantly read this book to a class of children. I found it easy to create voices for the different characters and the rhyming allowed it to flow easily.
