Originally published as part of the best-selling Oxford Illustrated History of Britain in 1984, published in 2000 as number 18 as a Very Short Introduction. It is also the third Very Short Introduction in the Very Short Introductions: British History series.

John Blair's Very Short Introduction to the Anglo-Saxon Age covers the period from the earliest English settlements of the Anglo-Saxons to the Norman victory in 1066.
