Description[]

Rivers of Fire is a children's science fiction novel, written by Patrick Carman, and published in 2008. It is the second book in the Atherton trilogy, preceded by The House of Power and followed by The Dark Planet.

Atherton was once a magnificent three-tiered world, but no longer: it is being torn apart. Its three lands, formerly separated by treacherous cliffs, have collapsed and collided. A gifted climber and adventurous orphan boy, Edgar, is determined to discover Atherton's secrets. But navigating Atherton's chaos is nothing less than harrowing. At the centre, a former paradise is sinking and flooding. At the perimeter, a monstrous force is on the attack. Trapped in between are the people of Atherton. But for Edgar's friends, Samuel and Isabel, things are even worse: they must venture underground, and confront deadly cave dwellers, rivers of fire, and waters of life.
