Description[]
Authors' Preface[]
The studies in this little book are intended to illustrate life in England at various periods and in various social milieux. By taking English children and reconstructing their daily lives, we have tried to secure a more vivid and clear-cut picture than would be obtained by generalised accounts of "the manor", "London life", "the Elizabethan stage". Many of our children (such for example as Edward VI, Salathiel Pavy, and Henry Kelsey) had a historical existence; others have been reconstructed from various contemporary sources; but all, we hope, give a picture which is as accurate as a modern historian can make it, of daily life in bygone times; and in the choice of our little heroes and heroines we have tried to illustrate as wide a range of types as possible in the space at our disposal.
Information[]
This book has quite short chapters, describing a short day in the life of children from different eras; some of them are merely fictional; others are totally real.
