Big Nate is an American comic strip written and illustrated by Lincoln Peirce. The strip is about a boy named Nate Wright, a rebellious and energetic sixth-grader, and his classmates and teachers. Nate is portrayed as a boy with little interest in studies or conforming to standards. Because of this, he is no stranger to the detention room. Some of the staff at the school include Mrs. Godfrey (Nate's social studies teacher and chief faculty nemesis), art teacher Mr. Rosa, Principal Nichols, Mrs. Shipulski, and Mrs. Czerwicki. Nate's best friends include Francis Pope and Teddy Ortiz. The strip adapted into a chapter book series in 2010.

Big Nate is always full of humor for kids young and old. Lincoln Peirce really knows how to attract young male readers and knows how to entertain them. I am very fond of the book, because it's appropriate, humorous, and I can relate to the main character. In fact, I like this book better than the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series because those books talk about the past while Big Nate books talk from present. This series has to go on my favorite books list. There are some things you should take caution about before buying the books. For example, there are some suggestive scenes in the books (for example, there is a kissing seen in Big Nate: In a Class by Himself), but they are pretty rare. There is some cruelty from name calling like "shut up" or "what the.." as this will be said frequently throughout the series. Also, Nate says some rude things about his teachers and the books has some bad messages sometimes.
To clear things up, I recommend this:
- If you or another person who you know wants to read the books, please do not read if you or that person is sensitive.
- Get a parent to review the book before you read it.
- If you are 7 or under, I heavily suggest you to not read the books.
- Please do not mimic any offensive phrases or events in the books.
