Ivan's father is the hat maker in Hatville, where everyone wore hats that would show what career they were in. Ivan was coming near his very own Hat Day where he would get his own hat. All of Ivan's adult friends that had hats of their own tried to give Ivan a hat that dealt with their job, which weighs Ivan down for awhile until the hat maker himself comes to help him.
